Building: 60 Acre Farm
Location: Hanbury, Bromsgrove
Duration: 6 months
Project Type: Private contract
Services: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Solar
Installer: Alt Energi
Project Overview
This major agricultural development involved the construction of four intensive broiler sheds capable of accommodating up to 200,000 chickens. Working to a demanding construction plan, Alt Energi required a responsive supply partner capable of delivering quality products quickly and reliably throughout the installation period.
It is for this reason that they chose CORE’s exclusive distributor, Smith Brothers Stores Ltd – as a repeat customer, it was known they would be a reliable choice for their excellent service and reliability for time-sensitive projects.
The Objective and Challenges
Large-scale poultry farming operations require tightly controlled environmental conditions to ensure animal welfare, maximise productivity and maintain operational efficiency. The development called for an extensive heating and energy infrastructure, incorporating renewable technologies alongside traditional mechanical services.
The Solution
Alt Energi worked closely with Smith Brothers Stores Ltd, throughout the installation, who supplied a wide range of mechanical products to support the efficient delivery of this large-scale agricultural development. With project timelines remaining a key priority, Smith Brothers’ responsive service and next-day delivery capabilities helped ensure materials were available when required, minimising potential disruption on site.
The completed mechanical and renewable energy system incorporated two 2-megawatt biomass boilers, approximately 11.5 km² of underfloor heating, 24 multi-heat overhead heaters and a 400kW solar PV installation. Together, these technologies provide an efficient and reliable heating and energy solution that supports the operational demands.
In addition, the project utilised ISOTUBI Stainless Steel Press-Fit pipework throughout the installation, providing a durable and efficient piping solution suitable for the demands of a large-scale agricultural heating system.
CORE supplied a range of key components for the heating and mechanical systems, including:
- Pipe supports and fixings
- Consumables
- Valves (including ball and butterfly)
- Strainers
- Copper press fit
- 2 x Side Stream Filters
- 5 x 1000 Litre expansion vessels
- Gauges and thermometers
The scope of CORE’s product offering enabled Alt Energi to source multiple key components through Smith Brothers, helping to streamline procurement, maintain programme schedules and deliver a reliable, high-performance heating solution for the farm.
Together, these products formed an integral part of the mechanical services installation, supporting efficient system operation across the farm’s extensive heating network.
The Result
The development was successfully completed within the six-month project, delivering a high-capacity, energy-efficient heating and renewable energy solution capable of supporting the farm’s operational requirements.
By combining biomass heating, extensive underfloor heating and solar PV generation, the project benefits from a robust and sustainable energy infrastructure designed for long-term performance.
